Vector mask lacks path operation when drawn with pen tool

When I create a vector mask from a path using the ellipse or square tool, it gives me path operations to choose from (such as combine shape, subtract front shape, etc.). However, those path operations are not present when the path used to create the vector mask is made with the pen tool. Also, the path operation options disappear as soon as I alter the vector shape used for the mask.

This is relatively easy to work around but it feels like a clunky process to have to use a shape tool, choose the appropriate path operation, then alter the vector by adding points with the pen tool. This takes extra time and is frustrating. I am inclined to think it is a bug.

Hi

Path operations in the options bar does impact the mask - but you need to click on the path first with the arrow key you will see the points become visible

The other path operations  are meant for the reaction between overlapping separate paths

I'm not following your description.

Attached is an image with a vector mask created with the pen tool. Path operations are in the options bar when using path tool (black arrow) , direct selection tool (white arrow), pen tool, or shape tool to amend

Yes, that menu shows up but it doesn't do anything if you change the modes. In the properties tab, when you make a vector mask with the shape tool, there is a button for "Live Shape Properties" which has those same options. However, selecting from these options does alter how the mask operates.

BOOM! Problem solved.

Thanks.

It still feels like the "Live Shape Properties" should exist, but even with it's absence, my workflow is greatly improved now.

WOOT!
