Im running into the problem where my brush cursor stops rotating secods after putting a mark down. Everything seems to work fine with windows ink on but when i make a PsUserConfig file with the command UseSystemStylus 0 i get this problem. Brush rotation is unsuable without being able to see your brush orientation and cant figure out why it stops rotating seconds after a mark is put down. I have tried many different ways to try to fix the problem including reseting wacom prefrences and uninstalling and reinstalling drivers. Please Help!!

I have inserted a video demonstrating my problem where i am constantly rotating the barrel and Photoshop does not recognize the barrel rotation until the stylus is in contact with the tablet.

Hi dylans,

That isn't a typical experience as Wacom Art Pen brush keeps rotating unexpectedly after you put a desired mark, we're sorry to hear about this.

Could you please let us know the version of Photoshop you're using? Couple of troubleshooting steps:

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Akash

Without Audio its hard to tell how thing are working and how you have thing configured  I see you have PSUserConfig set to use WitTab and you Wacom set to use windows ink and the uRTS statement in PSUserConfig does not seem right. You may have deleted PSUserConfig in your video and restarted PS so the PSUserConfig in the editor no longer exist except in the Edit application.  Its hard to follow  what is going on and the brush seemed to work using Wintab as well as using INK.  I do not have an Art pen to test with so I do can not actually see what you mean by cursor stops rotating in you video it looks like the cursor rotated with both Wintab and INK.  The was no audio indicating cursor should be rotating  but has not stopped.

On Windows 8 or later, Photoshop (CC 2014 or later) uses Windows Ink to control the interaction of Photoshop and a stylus device. Using Windows Ink gives you better stroke results and allows you to use your tablet PC or convertible device without having to install a driver.

If the tablet uses a WinTab driver and does not have an option to use Windows Ink, or if you encounter other issues, you can use Turn off System Stylus to force Photoshop to use WinTab.

Turn on RealTimeStylus

When you run Photoshop CC (v14.2.x) on Windows 8.x, Photoshop uses Microsoft’s Wintab technology to control the interaction of Photoshop and a stylus device. If your tablet has issues when using WinTab, you can use Turn on RealTimeStylus to force Photoshop to use Windows Ink, which can give your stylus better performance.

sorry if i did not demonstrate the problem well, Brush rotation and tilt works smoothly when windows ink is enabled and there is no custom user config file. But i dont want to use windows ink so i had made the psuserconfig file with the lines

# Use WinTab

UseSystemStylus 0

which worked for months. but the other day i came to use photoshop and the rotation and tilt stops working seconds after puting a mark down. if i delete the psuserconfig file and enable windows ink the tilt and rotation works properly. so im wondering how i can get everything to work smoothly again with windows ink OFF and i want to use the sytem stylus with the psuser config file.

thank you for taking the time to read, much appreciated!

Have you solved it?
Go to wacom tablet properties, select artpen tool, go to mapping menu and check Use windows ink.

Hi there,

I also use the Art pen from Wacom. I believe what the original question was referring to was:  With the use Wintab file and windows ink off, we get a LIVE PREVIEW of the brush angle rotation as we rotate the barrel before we paint. With the Use windows ink checked, we do get rotation and pen pressure, but there is NO PREVIEW OF BRUSH ROTATION. I am using caps because this is a disaster when trying to paint with the Art brush and rotation.

For years I have been using the Use Wintab text file in Photoshop settings with the Use Windows Ink turned OFF in Wacom settings. After the most recent update of Photoshop 21.1 this PSUserConfig file seems to cause an error when I use the lasso tool. If I hold Ctrl the lasso tool is supposed to turn into the polygonal lasso tool until I release it. This does not happen. Using the polygonal lasso tool is also problematic as stray selections are made randomly.

So the workaround for getting pen pressure in Photoshop no longer works if you need to use the Art pen, like I do.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm also experiencing this bug. It makes barrel rotation completely unpredictable, and thus unusable, and severely impacts the way I work. Any advice Adobe?

Users have been using hacky workarounds like WinTab for many years without any official fixes from Adobe. Are tablet users just not a priority to them?

I would double check and see if you're having that issue in another app as well. Then double check the tablet driver and control center to make sure some setting isn't wonky for the pen.
