Question

Watercolor actions

I have used the Watercolor Actions downloaded from Adobe and it has always worked perfectly. I got a new Photoshop and imported Watercolor Actions again - and now it's not working. As soon as I hit SETUP, I get this message: The command “Select” is not currently available.

I have tried to remove the actions, brushes and patterns and install once more, but the problem is still there.

Any ideas what to do?

"The command “Select” is not currently available."

I guess action step is looking for layer with specific name but that layer is not present. Can you take screenshot? When above message appear stop playing action, expand action in the Actions panel and there should be step highlighted, that is problematic step. Take screenshot with Layers panel visible. Screenshot like this one below

Do you have a brush named "Watercolor Artist - Basic Brush"?

Check the name in the brushes panel.

Thanks for your patience. Yes, I have that brush.

Then ... I dont know.

Judging by your screenshot, you have an error just when selecting this brush.

Try recording a simple two-command action.

1. Select the brush tool.

2. Select this named brush.

Try to play this action. Change the brush to another beforehand.

Are there any errors when playing your recorded action?

Maybe your layer is locked. Can you show us a screenshot of your workspace including layers panel?

Nancy - thanks a lot for responding. It looks like this. Seems like the background layer is locked, but I have always used it like this. Isn't it always locked ..?

Double-click your background layer to unlock it.

And select the layer you wish to edit.  Obviously, empty pixels cannot be selected.
