When i paint black in a mask, it faintly reveals instead of erasing. Why? All my settings are correct, such as brush and layer opacity, brush and layer blend mode. I have reinstalled PS CC 2018, and it's still not working properly. Solution?

Correct answer JJMack

Show a screen capture Are you sure its not hiding the current layer and revealing a lower layer's image. If it is actually not working try resetting your tools and if still not working reset your Photoshop preferences

If it still doesn’t work after trying these ideas, then please post a screen shot of

  1. the Optionts panel for your brush tool
  2. the layers panel for the current layer with the mask

Also, type D to switch to your defadult colors and X to switch between black and white if necessary

Try resetting the brush options? (Right-click (Cmd + click on Mac) > Reset Tool)
