When items are in the same folder, how can I move them independently?

Basically, when I have my selection cursor over items that are in the same folder, it has a blue box around the whole group. If I use the V hotkey to move items, it moves them all. I want to keep them in the same folder, but move independently. How do I do this? The nudge command works, but is very slow.

Also, I see one of the toggles for making things visible (eye in a box icon) is yellow. Why is this?

@DragonClaw0123 not sure if I understand your issue, maybe enable auto select in the options bar, if that doesn't help can you post a screenshot of the Photoshop interface with all the pertinent panels opened
