from a professional point of view:
• if you want to edit/color correct raw insta360 files, use lightroom

• if you want to avoid insta studio and stitch your raws yourself, use https://ptgui.com
• if you want to edit/retouch stitched 360° panoramas (equirectangular images), use https://pano2vr.com, which cooperates smoothly with PS.
• if you only want to do tripod removal, use: https://nadirpatch.com

@meilcowski Adobe's 3D program suite is now Substance however an insta 360 is not 3D. That is a spherical panorama image which is still available for processing using Photoshop 22.2 (available in Creative Cloud App/Photoshop...other versions)

Your right of course. I was thinking of the 3d menu item and misspoke. I am trying to find a good workflow to collecting and managing 360 photos in my lightroom catalog. Not sure if there is a way to right click and view the images in an external viewer, I dont need to edit them per se, as I have the insta studio, but it would be nice to have all my images visibile and tagged in one place (lightroom). Surely others have this problem as well. Thank you for your help.

I am guessing that there are apps designed specifically for Insta 360 footage and stills.

This link mentions Premiere Pro for 360° video, and Google also mentioned Insta360 Studio

And this link talks about Insta360 with Photoshop.

Good luck, and please let us know what worked best for you, as other people will definitely be interested.

Short of any non-adobe app options, you can use Adobe Premeire for 360 images (or video).  Works well.

  • Import a 360 photo (or video) into Premiere pro,
  • Drag that 360 photo onto the new sequence button and now you have a static sequence image.  But you have a couple more steps to convert from equirectangular into a normal view that you can grab normal photos out of, or edit the image in 360 view.
  • Right click the new sequence and choose sequence settings.
  • Choose the VR properties tab up top of that window.
  • Change the projection settings under vr properties to Equirectangular.  Hit Ok.
  • Now in your normal program window you need to make sure the button for "Toggle VR" is one of the icon tools below the program window.
  • If the button is there, (looks like a circle with a rectangle going thru it), click that and your video should now toggle between equirectangular and 360 VR view.
  • If it's not there, choose the plus far to the right and drag that icon into that tool bar area.  Remember, you can hover a mouse over any of those icons and it will tell you what the tool is.

Now you can move around the 360 view.  You can export any frame in view as an image.  You can animate moving around that 360 view whether a static image or a video.  You could create a whole video off the movement around one 360 static photo.  The only real limitation is the width and height of the view once at this point that I know of.  Sometimes the field of view isn't as great as you would get from a normal camera shot if exporting frames as images.  Might have to do lens corrections if say your chosen area to export a frame image of looks like a fish lens.  And some views around the 360 will have a tilted horizon.  Maybe someone else knows how to correct for that in Premeire.  I usually just correct the image after exporting it using PS.  You can edit sequence settings and change pixel dimensions and scale the image.  Or you could scale up the equirectangular image before importing into Premiere using PS.
