    There is no choice to version. When you buy it today (actually, when you subscribe) you get the current version.

    You should have cc 2018, which is the version you get from Adobe today, the current version. (Unless a 2019 version appears). That's the one you get, so why would you have anything else? I really don't understand your original question about what version, since you can only buy one version.

    Back are far as Photoshop CS4 up to CC2018 as far as I'm aware

    That would depend on the email client I would imagine

    Ged, it goes way back before then.  In the early days we had ImageReady, which was able to produce frame animations.  We were a little upset when ImageReady was no longer part of Photoshop, but like with so many other updates, the functionality was still there via a different path.
