Why does Photoshop 2022 keep changing my color profile to sRGB from Adobe RGB?

This is why I hate updates and upgrades. Every single one is worse than the last. With PS 2022 it keeps changing the color profile to sRGB from AdobeRGB whenever I save to a png. I didn't ask it to do this and I don't want it to do this. The resulting file looks washed out with artifacting everywhere. The TIFF and JPG versions are fine but I prefer to upload in png. I have "Convert to sRGB" unchecked in the export settings so I don't understand why this is happening. I wish I could revert to an earlier version of PS because the latest one is a steaming pile of you know what.

A friend of mine who is way more tech savvy than me just came over and changed some things and now it's working. He'll explain to me what he did later and I'll come back and let y'all know what he did. Thanks for all your help. Happy Holidays!

Please do report back on his fix. It seemed a strange situation, the one you described. Adding the solution will help others avoid it.

Thanks for all who have responded so far, sorry for the tone but this is beyond frustrating. I also work full time so can only check in here a couple of times a day. I've been using PS for over 10 years now and in the past everything has run smoothly with only a minor issue or two. Updates are supposed to improve the program and fix bugs, not create them. Again, thanks for the help!

Which path are you using to save/export your PNG?

File > Save As/Save a Copy
File > Export > Export As

File > Export > Save for Web

There are two issues being worked on with the Save As path and with the Export As path.

I can merge you into the topic that covers what you're seeing so you will get notified when an update becomes available.

There is a bug in Export As when saving without converting to sRGB (see below)

https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/p-export-as-is-changes-the-colour-values-significantly-when-it-converts-16-bit-to-8-bit-prophoto/idc-p/12591621#M34615

You can get around it by using Save As or Export > Save for Web Legacy

A brilliant answer Dave.

I wonder whether the OP will list his other issues!

Please set the Status Bar to »Document Profile« and post meaningful screenshots.

What are the Edit > Color Settings?

How exactly do you create the pngs? You seem to mention »save« and »export«, so what is it?

I wish I could revert to an earlier version of PS because the latest one is a steaming pile of you know what.

Have you considered doing a search for »photoshop install older version«.

The first link I get is this:

Install previous versions of your Creative Cloud apps - Adobe ...https://helpx.adobe.com › download-install › using › in...

Sorry this is my first time at this and I didn't get the question up with the images.  So the one with the correct  coloring (grey background) started off as a good jpg file and I enlarged the canvas and added a layer from the weird colored png file.  It looks just fine once it went over to the jpg image.  Then I started with a new blank file (pink background) and added layers from the png and jpg files and they both came in with screwed up color.  Any ideas on how to solve this puzzle?

Hi

IF an sRGB file was incorrectly assigned Adobe RGB the colour would actually apppear to be boosted and over saturated, you can test it in Photoshop, take an sRGB image, edit/assign profile/Adobe RGB - the saturation jumps.

What profile is embedded in the file you have after the export?

Maybe try "save as" instead of "export" - because export seems to have a bug, see the thread I link to below.

your PNG creation issue [with the ICC profile error] may be similar to the bug discussed here:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/quot-embed-color-profile-quot-not-working/m-p/12589771#M607713

Lastly how are you viewing the file you have exported? IN Photoshop?

NOT the Windows Images program, I  hope?

I hope this helps

My files always start as AdobeRGB which I prefer as my local printer also uses AdobeRGB colorspace. I never use export I always use save as. I also view in PS and don't use any other program although now I wish there was an alternative as I'm tired of PS issues every time an "update" is rolled out. I'll check out the link which I appreciate, thank you.

I should also add that this problem only started this week and I've changed nothing within PS.

As a matter of interest, apart from the issue you've described, can you list all the other problems that are having. Please include your OS and how much RAM and spare hard disk capacity you have and whether you've tried resetting the Photoshop preferences?

Re Color space have a look at this: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/color-settings.html

Hi,

My operating system MacOS Catalina on a Macbook Pro (2019). Processor is 2.6
GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7. Memory is 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4. HD has 200 GB
free. I have tried resetting preferences but the problem persists. THis
only started happening this week and I believe it was after an "update".
Thanks.
