Why Doesn't The Layer Mask Hide When I Paint Black?

When I try to hide the Adjustment Layers by using the brush tool and a layer mask it doesn't work. It can paint the mask when the brush is white but when I switch to black it doesn't hide the part I'm painting on.

Don’t set the Brush Tool to the Blend Mode Lighten if you don’t want it to lighten.

    What do you mean? I might be mistaken but the blend mode is set to normal

    Look at the option bar in your video. The brush blend mode is set to Lighten.
