__Why is my Photoshop 'fracturing' images (when displaying??

Lately my Photoshop (current Mac update) has been displaying images in a way that looks like this (the images are fine on other Macs). Usually, the problem fixes itself when I add a layer or something, but this time it's not !

Had to call support - turns out it was just corrupted preferences

It also sometimes only shows a Black screen in place of the image (despite channels looking okay)
