Why is my text character pallet showing samples in Chinese

OK this is new. I'm testing some tecniques for building custome textures in Photoshop and I went to create some text. So I select the Text tool and open the Character pallet and I find that all of the font samples are in Chinese characters.

What has hgappened and how van I fix this

BTW I'm usung Photoshop CS 6 on a Windows 7 machine
