Why this Checkerboard on tinted colors?

New Here ,

Hi there

I have followed the tutorial on selection tools, which also illustrates how to change color/tint a certain object.
By following the same procedure on one of my own photos, an underlying greyish checkerboard becomes visible.
I have tried the same procedure on other photos with the same, surprising result.
Do any of you know the answer for this phenomenon?

I have attached an example with a tint on the whole picture (instead of selecting/colouring one single object).

Hi Marianne!

So sorry for the delay! I do see the gray lines in your image--I have a couple of questions for you so we can find out the answer.

First, it would be helpful to know the steps that you took to create the effect--can you give us a little more detail on how you created this?

Second, if you look in your Channel panel, is there an Alpha Channel there that could be part of the issue?

Beside the image above, can you give us a screen shot of your window with the layers panel visible?

Let us know if you still need help with figuring this out!

Michelle

Hi Marianne,

Thanks so much for the reply! I'm glad to hear that you're not having the issue anymore, but if there is anything we can do--just let us know.

We really need a complete screen shot of your entire workspace.  As well as the layers panel, I suspect it might be useful to also see the Channels panel.

Also:

Photoshop version?

Operating system?

Hi Trevor and Michelle

Thanks so much for your replies. I'm sorry that I didn't notice them until now!

First of all, I have realized that I was foolish enough not to mention the exact tutorial that I followed, because now I'm not sure which one it was. There seem to be several tutorials on selections etc.

Secondly, I'm not able any longer to reproduce the error, and I didn't keep the .psd-file.
However, I now suspect the problem to be related to the fact that I had also a version of Photoshop Elements 15 installed on my PC. This version is now deleted (together with unused psd-files) during my new year PC-cleaning 🙂

If I'm able to reproduce the error again, I will raize the problem once more in this forum and connect the new tread with this one.

Again, thank you so much for your replies.

Best regards;
Marianne
