Windows Ink workaround causes lag

Hi all,

Since I switched to windows 10 I've had problems with windows ink in photoshop.

I fixed it for the most part with the workaround: How to Disable WINDOWS INK - Photoshop Bug with Wacom Tablets (2018) - YouTube

However every now and then there is a lot of lag in photoshop when drawing. When this happens I've to click somewhere outside of photoshop and then go back to photoshop. It is a minor issue, but it is anoying.

Does anyone know what causes this or do you know how I could figure this out?

Also, why does photoshop need to rely anyway on windows ink for pen pressure to work? I think especially for new users with a tablet the whole windows ink thing is pretty annoying.

Are you sure its not other brush setting causing lag. For examples a large brush tip zoomed way our so your entire large image can be painted on in a single stroke and brush spacing set to 1%.   The IMO that will always cause lag with either INK or WinTab Api I do not know what is used on a Mac but would think  it would be a problem particularly if a mixer brush is used.  Photoshop does not work on the small scaled image displayed it work on your large  document the can not fit on you display and tries to show you a scaling of the panting progress on the small displayed scaled image.  Photoshop mate need to update millions pf pixels foe each of you brush strokes. Photoshop was not designed to be a Painting application IMO its an image editor the is a pixels editor.

100% sure. I've experienced this with slower computers, but it's different now.

I can draw for some time with a brush fluently and then after a few minutes suddenly it starts to lag. When there is lag It only draws very short strokes. This only goes away when I click outside of photoshop and then go back to photoshop.

Hi

I don't know why you are seeing a lag as I get no lag here. You could run Windows task manager and see if anything else is running at the times you see the lag.

On your second question ("why does photoshop need to rely anyway on windows ink for pen pressure to work?") , Adobe cannot feasibly write drivers for every tablet out there. Instead they hook into the system APIs for pen pressure which in practice means using Windows Ink or WinTab. The workaround in the video forces the latter. Whether you need it or not depends on your individual tablet.

Thanks for clarifying. I just wish windows had more options when it comes to windows Ink.
