Question

Windows Thumbnails / Previews only showing part/zoomed in version rather than the full image

Good morning all,

I've just switched to Windows 11, and discovered that Windows now seems to be showing thumbnails and previews differently.

Rather than showing the full image in the thumbnail, regardless of the images actual size/dimensions, it now shows a zoomed in version, but not the same for all images...

e.g. When working on an image with several layers of avatars, transparent backgrounds, generating image assets, the thumbnails show just a headshot from the top of each layer - apart from one which shows a chest shot.

When I save the same images separately I get different previews, showing most of the avatar, but cutting them off around the knees.

I've had a good Google but can't find anything related, and I'm sure it'll be a Windows thing rather than Photoshop, but as the thumbnails/previews behave differently with different methods of saving on Photoshop I wanted to start here first.

Can anyone help with this? It's doing my head in!

Photoshop version: 23.0.2

Thanks,

Rick

Hi Rick,

Sorry to hear that, could you please try updating Photoshop to version 23.1.0 through the Creative Cloud Desktop app and let us know if it helps?

If that doesn't help then you may try resetting the preferences of Photoshop.

Note: Make sure that you back up all your custom presets, brushes & actions before restoring Photoshop's preferences. https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preset-migration.html

Thanks @Sahil.Chawla - sadly that's not made any difference.

I have attached screenshots as an example.

The first screenshot shows several thumbnails in Windows Explorer, the first thumbnail is a PNG I saved manually, the other thumbnails are showing Assets generated automatically through Photoshop.

The second screenshot shows a (zoomed out) original version of the file, showing the whole image - so you can see even the thumbnail/preview of the PNG I saved manually doesn't show it all.

So there is definitely something strange about the images from Photoshop... However, it looks like it must definitely be a Windows issue, as the screenshots I generated don't load thumbnails correctly either.
