Workflow with "More Fonts" advice please.

If someone has a link to a basic explanation of proper workflow for fonts in PS CC, can you please share? I never had issues with the standalone PS, but the CC version is mystifying to me.

I'm on a mac, using the latest everything I think. The regular "Your Fonts" works fine as it always has, but the use of "More Fonts" baffles me.

I create a PS doc, I choose a font from More Fonts, write something, it's great. I save it.
I open PS again a day later, the doc looks great, all the fonts are the same. BUT if I try to edit those text layers, the fonts are "Missing" so I can't modify anything. Clearly, the fonts are there, because the text looks exactly correct and PS identifies them correctly. I don't want to replace them with Myriad Pro (the only option in the dialog box). I can create a new text layer, choose the More Fonts font again and write it again no problem.

More Fonts seems to work fine so long as I dont quit PS, but if I do, those type layers become uneditable because even though it displays the font, and recognizes exactly what it is in the properties panel, its now "missing" for purposes of changing the layer.

What should I be doing that I'm not doing to keep this from happening? Do I literally have to manually keep track of the "More Fonts" I use and manually download and install them locally? I mean, it's obvious CC has access to these fonts since they work when first used and continue to display correctly, so I'm really confused as to what is going on here or what step I'm missing in the workflow.

Thanks in advance

Hi @javier_4124, thanks so much for sharing those extra details!

Could you try clearing your font cache? This guide walks you through the steps: https://adobe.ly/4lF4f0Y

If that doesn’t do the trick, you might also want to try deleting the system font cache.

Let me know how it goes!

Problem has fixed itself!

thanks for all your help, it seems that I had neglected some update to some CC thing or other, and once I did that this problem went away and it all works well.  I'll know to check all the updates next time this happens.

Thanks again.

Hi @javier_4124, welcome to the community!

Thanks for reaching out. I tried to reproduce the issue on my end, but for me, fonts from “More fonts” don’t show up as missing after closing and reopening the file.

Could you let us know which version of Photoshop you’re using? Also, is this happening with all fonts from “More fonts,” or just specific ones?

One more thing, can you double-check that you're signed in to Creative Cloud before launching Photoshop, and that the fonts you want are properly added?

Thanks again!

Alek

Let me correct you on the problem.   If the file is closed and reopened it still works, so long as PS itself is not quit.  The problem seems to appear anytime PS quits.  When it reopens, it won't edit the existing text layers unless I make a new text layer with the same font, then it remembers and lets me edit the layer.
