i am a photoshop CS6 user with Camera Raw 9.1.1.  i'm doing an online photoshop class and they are using ACR 8.7.1  in the video the .xmp file is clearly displayed with the corresponding CR2 file in finder when clicking on "reveal in finder" in Bridge.  when i do the same, there is no visible .xmp file.  how do i make it visible?  i've looked in the camera raw settings but i don't see an obvious solution.  "sidecar .xmp files" is selected.  Thanks.

i think i figured it out all.  the instructor's photos are .CR2.  and even though i am using "the same" files as he is, with the downloaded content, i have a .dng extension.  which, i have learned, doesn't make .xmp files.  okay.  mystery solved, except why are his .CR2 files becoming .dng files on my end....  thanks everyone!

Are you on Mac? You may need to turn on settings / on WIn that can be specific to folder if I can remember correctly / to be able to see .xmp file. Another thing that come in my mind is that image may not be open and processed in ACR at all and that can cause missing .xmp file.

Yes i am on a mac.  there are icons in the corner, i.e. adjustment and crop, which according to the instructor is the information that is kept in an .xmp file, which he showed in his video.  he has an .xmp file in finder but for some reason i do not.

CC2019 has the settings here, see if there is something similar in CS6.
