Zoom windows to fit working differently with mouse and keyboard shortcuts

Hi there.

I've just switched from using PS on a Mac to a PC and I'm getting used to the slightly different layout and settings between the two systems. Most things I've been able to figure out, but I'm having an issue with the zoom tool which is driving me bananas!

I use the zoom tool both with the mouse and the keyboard shortcuts and I prefer to resize the windows to fit. However, no matter which way I configure the resize windows to fit tick box - either in the preferences menu or by ticking the box itself in the toolbar - I can't get both the mouse and the keyboard shortcut to do the same thing. If the resize windows to fit works with the mouse, it won't with the keyboard and vice versa. Is there anyway that I can get both zoom methods to work in the same way?!

I'm using Photoshop 22.1.1.

Thanks very much.

Correct answer Jeff Arola

Resize Windows to Fit under the Zoom Tool options is the same as

Edit>Preferences>Tools>Zoom Resizes Windows, so if you check

one the other is checked as well.

Your using Floating Document Windows?

Your using Ctrl + or Ctrl - with Resize Windows to Fit checked?

Hi Jeff.

Turns out that I was not using the right key after all! I had gone straight to where I was used to going on the Mac keyboard (command key) and was therefore using the Alt Gr key with + and - instead of Ctrl. Duh. Although it does zoom, it obviously switches between resize windows to fit and its opposite. Thanks for your help!

I wished I could be of more help. I'm not too terribly accustomed to Windows, it's been about 12 years since I used Windows. This past year at work, when we went remote, we had to use our work computers to connect remotely to Windows machines, since the company we merged with used windows and they want to correspond to them, but even then, I had custom things that allowed me to use my Mac shortcuts in the Windows Remote Desktop. That said,I'm not sure there is a way to make the mouse work the same as the keyboard shortcuts
