Feature Request: New Image from Clipboard

One of my most common workflows is working on clipboard content, but whereas taking a screenshot is super easy, getting it into a Photoshop document is more cumbersome than it could be, with panels, confirmations, extra keystrokes, etc.

Could we please have some or all of:

  • File
    • New Document From Clipboard if there is clipboard content
  • Edit > Paste Special...
    • Paste Into New Document
  • Home panel
    • Ctrl+V creates new image from clipboard
  • New Document panel
    • Ctrl+V creates new image from clipboard
    • Your Recent Items > Clipboard is auto-populated with the clipboard contents (this seems so obvious!)

FWIW Photopea has this; you just press Ctrl+V on the landing page and a new image is created, ready to edit, no panels, confirmations, or additional keystrokes.

Thanks!

@daveystew, here's how I do it, and I'm not sure if it could be simpler?

  • Take a screenshot.
  • In Photoshop, go to File > New. A dialog box preloads with the clipboard's dimensions.
  • Click Okay.
  • Ctrl+V.

Make sure in Preferences > General, you have Use Legacy “New Document” Interface checked.

Hi @J E L - yes I do the same.

I just think it c/should be 1 step not 3! Especially with the new panels you have to go through now. What a palaver!

EDIT: Make sure in Preferences > General, you have Use Legacy “New Document” Interface checked.

Ah, just noticed this! Good to know.

This doesn't seem to work anymore in Photoshop version 25.7.0, even when the Legacy New Document box is checked in preferences.

Trying to figure out how to delete my reply, as it does work after all. In Adobe Acrobat I just had to use "Take a snapshot" of the material I wanted for my Photoshop file rather than "Copy".

In Corel PhotoPaint you go:

Copy image to clipboard

File> New from clipboard

I have used it for years and can never remember how to do it in PhotoShop.
