When PS (or the PS Beta) is installed on a Windows 10 computer, the helper application Microsoft EdgeWebView2 is installed with it. I don't have access to a Windows 11 computer to see if this still is occuring.
The application is being installed in the static directory
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Microsoft
This version of EdgeWebview is based on Chromium version 92.0.902.84. You can see this in the Property details of the msedge.dll and msedgewebview2.exe files.
This version of Chromium is from around May 2021 and has known securty flaws.
The current version of EdgeWebView is installed along with the MS edge appliation that is pushed as a component from the Microsoft Updates and is managed by Microsoft.
It is located in the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeWebView\Application\{insert current Cromium version number}
The properties of the msedge.dll and the msedgewebview2.exe files show the version to be 105.0.1343.33 (as of September 12, 2022)
If the PS developers can't find a way to utilize the version of MSedgewebview that Microsoft maintains current can they please install the updated Chromium version where the security flaws had been resolved? PS updated to ver 23.5.1 today and it still wants to install the old version of MSedgeWebView.
