Option to flip drop shadow vertical or horizontal in layer effects panel. Drop shadow groups idea.

The drop shadow effect in the layer effects panel should have an option to flip the drop shadow either vertical or horizontal (and be able to provide a pivot point for that flip...not always just center), as well as an option to make a "cast" shadow.

It would also be good if one drop shadow could contain several drop shadows. That way you could change the parameters on the parent drop shadow and some of those settings would carry down to the other shadows, such as color, or opacity percentage which could be locked to different percentage pre-formulations (for example 4 drop shadows @ 75%, 55%, 35%, 18%; 3 drop shadows @ 75%, 50%, 25%, or a completely Custom Formulation with up to 6 drop shadows including the Parent). I know you can already do multiple drop shadows in the layer effects panel. This is a suggestion to control them together as a group. If you changed 75% to 80% in one of the groups, the other drop shadows would add 5% opacity to their numbers as well. You would also be able to change the opacity, color, etc. of a drop shadow independently of the others by clicking a checkbox to "Ungroup" the shadows. They can then be grouped back together after those changes have been made.

@CloudMountainGraphics Thank you. I hope you and Adobe come up with a great solution 🙂

Thank you Michael. I was aware groups can go inside groups, as well as its layers and effects. I'm trying to avoid all of the confusion of different effects on multiple layers to achieve a desired result.

Basically, I guess I'm talking about what would be a more detailed layers system in the layer effects panel. So one drop shadow could be grouped to others. I know it can be done without the features request I'm making, I've done it all the time. I just think that this idea lends itself to a less confusing and probably time-saving way to achieve those same results. Especially being able to flip a drop shadow without having to separate the effect from the layer, since this would ensure you could always go back and edit the drop shadow in the future.

In case you are unaware it's possible to add layer styles (including Drop Shadows) to groups within the Layers panel. You can also nest groups within groups to create some pretty serious hierarchies.

The elements within the group are treated as a single element to which the layer styles are applied. You will probably love or hate this functionality 😉
