P: Option to disable the preview in "Save for Web"

Hi,

I work intensive on websites and other digital media (such as apps) and use slices and "save for web" all the time.

When I have a big file with many slices on it and only want to save one or two, photoshop creates a preview of the whole file. This takes a some time. I often don ́t need this optimization feature, because every slice has set the correct file preset already.

For example I see that a color or gradient has to be changed on the page. I make some slightly color change at one slice (on a big image file with many slices) and start "save for web". It makes a big preview and I have to wait before I can save.
One "trick" I use is to crop my image to a small size with the needed slices, save for web and the undo. But when I forget to undo and save.....its big sh** 😉

● So I only want, that there is in the save for web & devices dialog a checkbox "create preview".

● Also it would be a solution to simply save the last state of the tabs in the preview area. So when I switch to "Original" it remembers next time and only start to create a preview when I change to "Preview" or "2-Up" etc.

● A smarter additional feature would be (for me and the growing mass of people working only digital) to have a faster method to save only one slice without start a (oldschool) dialog for that. For example a small save-icon (a disk!?) in the corner of every slice. Like now with the number. The type of image preset could be adjusted in the slices options panel.

Hope to get some feedback.

I still use SfW in production with full-resolution (30MP) files because it has granular settings and because I can include it in an action. Export (either version) is not a suitable replacement.

Save For Web is legacy and will never be updated any more.

"Export As" is the replacement. Post a request for Export and you may have a better chance. In any case it's supposed to be faster with big files.

That said, Export is still buggy and a lot of us still use Save For Web. To handle big files, make an action that first resizes and then exports the small file.

Hi Adobe, after 12 years of waiting for the implementation of a function that certainly requires half a day's work from your teams to implement, are you finally going to listen ? It's pretty unacceptable to have to wait forever when export for a totally useless function !

So much unecessary crap keeps coming to Photoshop, but not one simple preview toggle...

This is just incredible... I clearly remeber in CS4 i had an option to disable preview in SFW. It's just stupid they don;t care about this. I hate when i work on Huge ads that need to be exported for web also and i need to wait 15 seconds to render a huge PNG i do not need!!! The render is also so slooow. It doesn't matter if you have a 3090 TI... the Adobe image renderer it's just painfuly slow.

This may not help everyone in this thread, however, with scripting it's possible to save slices to file without using Save for Web:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/script-for-splitting-multiple-psds-to-defined-slices/m-p/12592481#M608089

The script linked above saves to PSD, however, it is of course possible to edit the script to save the slices to other file formats.

11 years later. I'm so glad I'm not in the industry anymore, cos Adobe clearly doesnt care about their subscribers.

I'm exporting mockup images, I'm automating what I can with the "Scripts > Image processor" as well as the "Action" functions, but I still need to replace the source images for each mockup.
I have literally HUNDREDS of them just for this one project.

I know you're probably very focused on the AI race right now, but this issue, Adobe, is so damn serious. It's incredibly painful and frustrating.

That BS Tool is still loading 10 seconds for a 4k image on a 16c cpu, 128gb ram and a 4090...
But what do you expect when even the software itself don't give you options to export your file to all programs.

Bridge only gives me the option to export an image to ps or illu.
But better not talk about that slow bridge, that crashes every 10 min when you actually work with it.

Why do I even buy gen4 m2 SSDs? Oh right, to actually work in software like C4D, DaVinci and Houdini, that offers more tools and better performance for less.

Sometimes I even use C4D for simple animations because AE crashes when you work with FX like echo, and it needs to render 5 layers...
C4D can do 500+ 3D Objects in real-time. How?
For every bs you need a plugin in AE.

And why does PS still mini freeze my PC or iMac?
For some simple Filters and object selections? At least update these filters with a node based system.
It's so annoying to use AE for everything that is a bit more complex. Like testing textures and settings with the displacement filter.
GlitchLab on my phone does all effects faster and more complex than anything PS has to offer.
