"Can't save this document back to its original file format" should be simplified

I'm talking about this popup when trying to alter a Smart Object made by just dragging a .png to the file:

Not a big deal but I'm surprised Photoshop doesn't offer a simpler, one-click solution (discard the embedded file and automatically create a new one that's a PSD/PSB). It's a bit of a hassle doing that manually.

I know there are workarounds.

This is obviously the same issue as a regular Save to jpeg. As I'm sure you know, if the file format doesn't support a certain property of the file, you can't save directly to it until you've removed the "offending" properties.

The workaround in Save is the "legacy save" checkbox. The question is whether this applies to smart objects as well - do you have this checked? If not, try that.

If "legacy save" doesn't apply to smart objects, that should be a reasonable feature request.
