Adobe for commercial purposes

Hi All,

I recently asked the following question and many thanks for the answer but can I request a further answer to a question a query?

 If the following are ok to use for royalty free, on a commercial project- now and going forward for a pdf doc uploaded as an e book and paperback. Please - if in the future I stop using Adobe products (business fails/ become sick/ change career etc),  do I then have to start paying a royalty fee to adobe or the registered owners of Zalderdash on any of these e books/paperbacks created with Adobe,  being sold in the future.

I have downloaded and used Zalderdash, shree devangari 714 and bank gothic fonts. Zalderdash in particular.

Once you stop your subscription to Adobe CC, you will no longer be able to use the fonts. If you want to continue using them, you will need to purchase them. Some might be available for free download at web sites like DaFont.

Many thanks for the reply Barbara, I assume by your answer this relates to historic Adobe work that is still in commercial circulation too?

You will still have any documents that you created prior to cancelling CC, the text will still be there, but the Adobe font will no longer be there. PDFs will display with a substitution font.

Thats interesting. So the title of my books would no longer be Zalderdash but another user friendly font.

Can the fonts be embedded in PDFs and ebooks? Can they be used in printed books?

Yes. The fonts are licensed for embedding in any ebook format which protects the font data such as EPUB, iBooks, Kindle (mobi), Adobe’s Digital Publishing Suite (DPS), and PDF. 

Any ebook authoring workflow which requires the user to move the font files themselves is not allowed under the Terms of Use, however.

As with any electronic document, the fonts must only be used for viewing or printing existing content, not for creating new document variations, templates, or dynamic content.

You may also use the fonts to create print publications such as books or magazines, but you are not allowed to package or share the fonts with designers or print bureaus.

There is no limitation on the number of impressions you may produce.

Can I keep using files I created with these fonts if I cancel Creative Cloud?

Yes and no. Any file which embeds the font data, such as PDF or image formats, and any text that has been rasterized or outlined, will continue to display correctly. These types of files may be reproduced and distributed independent of your subscription status.

Documents that reference fonts on your computer, such as an InDesign or Word document, will show a missing fonts warning and use a default font from the program in place of the one from Adobe Fonts. You would need to purchase a new font license and install the fonts on your computer to continue to display and edit these files.

Many thanks for your replies Nancy, very informative. All the fonts are embedded into pdfs and may or may not be continued to be used following any Adobe subscription termination so I assume by your reply - the files should be ok if the book or ebook continues in circulation eg. without being chased for royalites by Zalderdash or adobe.

On a separate note, I do like the Adobe products so hopefully will still be using them
