Confused over different versions.

I'm getting very confused here as to which PS version to use.

CC2019 is opening and working fine.

2020 doesn't open, it just comes up with errors, which I will list in a moment.

v20.0.7 will open on Adobe Desktop and from PC icon.

v21.01, although shown on Adobe Desktop, won't open.

Lightroom will only show Photoshop 2020 in "Edit In", but as I've said, it won't open.

Error messages :----

" Photoshop.exe - system error. The code execution cannot proceed because tbb.dll was not found.  Re-installing the programe may fix this problem."

" the code execution cannot proceed because ScCore.dll was not found.  Reinstalling the programe may fix this problem "

"the code execuition cannot proceed because VulcanControl.dll was not found. Reinstalling the programe may fix this problem"

"The code execution cannot proceed because VulcanMessage5.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem"

All updates are done.

Really confusing and annoying.

Any ideas how to sort this mess out please?

Thankyou.

Correct answer SteveJM

I tried all sorts of things, did a complete uninstall then fresh reinstall.

Then the reinstall kept failing on multiple tries!!

In the end I used Adobe support with remote control. It still took 2 sessions of about 2 to 3 hours each, with all sorts of hitches and failures, but got there in the end.

Thanks for everyones help on here.

Cheers.

I have seen it before on Windows systems that don't have the lastest updates... the fix I used was to uninstall the old Photoshop verson i.e, your 2019 and then restart the os and ask for the lastest one

the Adobe server sometimes gets mixed up about what it is installing i.e, tries to put the new Photoshop in the old Photoshop folder so removing the old copy is the work around I used

I've never seen those messages, but it looks like there is an issue with your installation. Did you install from the CC desktop application?

Given where you are, I would :

1. Do a preference reset - a new install can pick up preferences from a previous install and if there were issues this would cause problems with the new.

2. Check the Settings folder

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2020\Adobe Photoshop 2020 Settings

it should contain Contours.psp,  Custom Shapes.psp , Extrude Filter Prefs.psp    and make sure that folder has permissions set for Read, write and Modify (right click and select properties to check)

3. If files are missing then you will need to uninstall - use the Adobe CC cleaner and then re-install using the desktop app.

Have you tried uninstalling v21.0.1 and then re-installing it , as suggested in the error message? Sometimes it becomes necessary to run the Adobe CC cleaner tool between uninstalling and re-installing https://helpx.adobe.com/uk/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

Ok, thanks Dave.

I'll give that a try now, I didn't want to before as I wasn't sure which is the latest, and when I had a quick look it said I lose all previous versions.

Never had to do it before so a little bit nervous 🙂

Cheers.
