Lasso Tool isn't functioning after switching between apps

Photoshop 19.1.6

When using the lasso tool, I can draw a selection like I normally would, but when I switch to a different application (Apple Mail or the desktop) and come back to photoshop, I'm no longer able to draw a selection. I need to quit photoshop, and this functionality returns to normal.  The problem is repeatable.

Does it happen with any other application?

Also, are you using a wacom tablet?

Have you tried doing a clean re-installation of Photoshop using the Creative Cloud cleaner tool? Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

I think I know what is happening.  I have a track pad, and a Wacom Tablet.  If I use the trackpad in another application and then come back to Photoshop to use my wacom tablet, the lasso and drawing doesn't work, but then it does work with the trackpad, and then after I use the track pad in Photoshop, the Wacom works again. Solution so far, when I see this issue, reengage the trackpad in photoshop, and in this way I don't have to restart Photoshop to fix the issue.

So, maybe this isn't a photoshop error, but a Wacom or Apple error? I'm not sure.

Hi there,

We're sorry about the Lasso tool not working, could you please try resetting the preferences of Photoshop and let us know if it helps with the issue?

Thanks for your reply Sahil. I have used the moved preferences file method.  This hasn't resolved my issue. It still happens with the default preferences.  Also, sometimes the brush tool stops working, and I have to restart to draw again.  Similar behavior, but we can focus on the lasso tool only, if that helps.
