Question

updates confusion

Im getting a bit confused by the updates in creative cloud app.   For example my pc appears to only have photoshop CC 2019 installed but the app shows an update for photoshop (new).    Why is it telling me to update something not installed?    Same goes for after effects, illustrator, indesign, premiere pro and others.    What are these ones without CC next to them and how can they be updated when I dont have them?

Hi

Photoshop 2020 is v. 21.0.1. You have Photoshop CC 2019, which is 20.0.7. It is displaying for you as CC 2019 in "Apps and Features" and as v. 20.0.7 in CC. In CC, the Photoshop that says "New" and "Update" has the new rounded corner icon. I'm not posititive, but maybe it will install PS 2020 plus add the Update to v. 21.0.1? What happens when you click the ellipses? Is there a reason you have not yet illstalled the newest version?

Photoshop 2020 is a newer version of Photoshop.  So you now have two versions of Photoshop installed.  They are independent of each other.  All new version of Photoshop have new bugs in them.  You should not un-install CC 2019 till you are sure that  2020 version is working well.  In even if 2020 is working well you should not un-install CC 2019 for a future automatic update to 2020 may introduce a new bug that will effect you use of Photoshop.  Currently I have CS3, CS6, CC 2014, CC 2018. CC 2019 CC 2020 installed.  I may delete CC 2018 soon.  All version of photoshop are not compatible with all file save in all versions  of Photoshop for features have been deleted, changed and added.  So there are some compatibility issues.  Photoshop is 20+ years old and is always being changed the number of bugs in Photoshop is growing.

That is odd--because usually when an app has an "open" button next to it, it means that the app (in this case PS20) is installed and up to date. Have you tried clicking on the open button? What happens?

Hi!

Have you previously installed After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign or any of the other apps? If you have Photoshop installed, and there is something that has changed in the program, it would show the update next to the name because of that change. Can you post a screen shot of what you are looking at so we can be more effective in helping you?

Thanks,

Michelle

Thank you for the post! It helps a lot. According to the screen shot (2) you have several apps installed. It looks like PS20 is up to date and ready to open. PS19 and Illustrator say update because there is something in the program that has changed and that is your notification to download the new build so your version can be updated. I noticed that you told JJ that you only have one version of PS, but your screenshot shows that you have both 2019 and 2020. Are you using both?
