Cannot install Photoshop Elements 2022 anymore?

Community Beginner ,
Dec 24, 2024 Dec 24, 2024

I have a perpetual license of Elements 2022.  It appears as a registered product under my Adobe account and has a download link.  I am upgrading to a new computer.  Once I download the .exe installer file to the new computer and run it, I get the initial question (language and install directory) and then it appears to start the install.

However, once the progress bar gets to 2%, the installation fails with error 113, unable to connect to the Adobe server.

I have followed every TS step I can find on the Adobe website (turn off antivirus, turn off firewall, use a different browser, etc, etc, etc) and nothing works.

At this point I am thinking that there is, in fact, no server for the installer to connect to.

Any information or advice, anyone?

Thanks!

We seem to be seeing more and more of these issues lately.  It's possibly a server issue, but I doubt it.  I am going to report this to Adobe and see if I can get a response.  But, at this time of year, I don't expect a speedy response.

Thanks, Greg!  I understand the time of year, so I'm not in any hurry.

I just despise monthly subscriptions for things I use once in a blue moon, so when I found the perpetual license versions of Elements a few years ago I was thrilled.  The fact that all these huge companies with plenty of cash are trying to shed any customer who won't fall into the monthly subscription pit is disturbing, and feels predatory to someone who has already paid for software.

UPDATE:  Over the holidays, I kept digging on this issue and eventually got a pm on this post to e-mail Adobe at adobe.tech@outlook.com ... So I sent them a message describing my issue.  The response I got was:

"PRE 2022 is no longer available and supported with Windows 11 64 Bit system.  So, we provide you the PRE 2024 license and you are eligible for the discount."

After a little back-and-forth, these people insist that the 2022 version is dead but I can get the 2024 version for $79.99 (which seems to be only a 3 year license btw).

Question:  Am I even talking to Adobe or is this some scammer?

Question2:  I already have 2022 versions installed on my other computer running Windows 11 64-bit and THEY WORK FINE.  So how is this "tech" telling me it's not supported on that operating system?  I can understand if Adobe is no longer providing updates, bug fixes, or other support for the software;  but why can't I download it and install it in it's existing (final) form??

Thanks anyone with insight

The PM is from a scammer.  Please give us his name so that his account can be stopped.

I have not heard back from Adobe about this issue, but I am following up.  We should be able to get your Elements 2022 installed.

Earlier this week , I had the help of a computer specialist who over the years has been the person who sets up my new computers and solves issues that come up.  He installed my elements 2022 from my Adobe account but know he had to download something extra to make it happen, but sorry it was not something I was familiar with. . So far it has worked ok. I know you are only allowed on 2 devices but did not see any where in my account a list of my devices to inactivate my windows 10 desktop to the new windows 11 desktop.  I will not be using the older desktop going forward.

You cannot deactivate Elements from a device using your Adobe account. You have to sign out of the program under the Help menu.

So do I need to do that on the program on my older desktop to permanently deactivate it, or I will eventually have an issue even if using one at a time.  I am out of town at the moment but will do that when I return end of next week.  I thought I remembered my devices actlisted somewhere in my account. I do not need any issues if I can avoid them.

@Barbara224160921ej5, you should sign out of the program on the computer you are not using any more.   For various unforeseen reasons, you may need to install and activate the program again on a computer or hardware that Adobe will consider to be a third computer.  We are seeing too many unsolved issues with installation of legacy Elements programs that cannot be deactivated because of crashed hard drives and the like.

If you have a Creative Cloud license, it can be deactivated through your account.  It is not yet clear what will need to be done with Elements 2025.  However the new 3 year license seems to behave more like the Creative Cloud license.

There seems to be another thread about deactivation of older third programs when adding a new version that says not to deactivate or you will loose them all. It is a very long thread of 5 pages that started years ago but the most current addition says to not to deactivate.  So now I am confused as what to do with my 2022 Elements version which was suppose to be perpetual and still fulfills my editing needs.

@andrew_4543 the scammer's screen name should be in the PM you said you received.

@Barbara224160921ej5 there are many recent threads about deactivation of older programs.  I have probably read them all.  But unless you can provide a link to the one you are referring to, there's not much I can do to clear up your confusion.  If you have a Creative Cloud license and deactivate it on one machine, all Adobe programs on that machine will be deactivated, including any Elements programs.

@Barbara224160921ej5 the thread you have linked started 13 years ago.  The most recent posts include one from a new poster who is giving advice not to deactivate an older version of Elements on your computer (even if you have the ability to do so).   He is contradicted by Glenn who is designated as a forum guru.  You can choose whose opinion you want to believe.

Thank you , I realized it started 2012 but in last year has had quite a bit of input.  I will listen to Glenn obviously .  I have not used the Elements program since Friday on any of my devices as away at our cabin. On my return I will sign out of the Elements program on my older Windows 10.  Question though when I want to look at photos in my files in folders outside of elements what do I need to use as the default app to open the raw files-- in other words is there a way to  I look at them.  I have a Sony AIV  camera which is why I downloaded the camera raw 15.

Adobe bridge is free, and in many ways better than organizer.

@Barbara224160921ej5, I am not 100% sure about this, but if you only sign out of the Editor, you can still use the Organizer to view your photos.

You can also download the free Microsoft Raw Image Extension from the Microsoft Store, and you will be able to view your raw images in Windows File Explorer and open them in the Photos app.   I just tried it with my Sony .ARW files and it works fine.

I actually downloaded the Microsoft Raw Image extension when I got the camera few years ago but never could see in in an app or a file location.  But I was able to see my photos as soon had elements 2022 with camera raw so never pursued further.  So it might be there hidden somewhere. As you realize I try to solve problems by researching the answers as not tech savvy but enjoy my photography so have to use the computer to pursue my interest.  I am of the baby boomer generation so did not grow up with it.

Thanks for all your advice. Back in town early and have signed out my elements editor section on the older Windows 10 desktop. . Disconnected from computer from the internet and can as you suggested still use the organizer.  Also view JPEG but not most raw photos on my old Picasso 3 program as photos in folder in data section of 2TB storage.
So now I can do more deleting of redundant photos and take up less space-- just need the time.  Would be nice if there were regulations preventing  making devices and programs obsolete as too much stuff goes to landfill as it is.  Another battle for another day.  Thanks , again,  B

@andrew_4543, several problems have been reported in this thead.  What is your exact problem?  If you are having problems with activation on a new computer, try disconnecting your computer from the internet and activate your license offline by following these instructions.

Oh, sorry - I am the OP so I'm referring to the very first post in this thread, from 24 Decmber 2024.
