Photoshop elements upgrade 2024 upgrade license

New Here ,
Oct 24, 2023 Oct 24, 2023

Hi everyone, I apologise if this is an obvious question , I tried their online support bit who hadn't a clue what I was talking about and couldn't readily see a support email address to contact so this is my last resort !

I was working with photoshop elements 2022 up on my mac up until the recent OS upgrade to Sonama which has caused a lot of problems with elements. A bit of research has revealed that my goose is likely cooked and that moving on to a higher version is the only option.  I had a look at the elements 2024 page and see that it is priced seperately as licence upgrade for 83 euro or buy outright for 102 euro.

If it was possible to upgrade my current version to the new version then I would obviously do that instead of paying the more expensive price and so here is my question, is that what license upgrade means ? I cannot see it explained exactly what license upgrade means, is from 2022 to 2024 or is it from 2023 to 2024 only or does it mean something else ? Can anyone explain how this works? Thanks a lot in advance/ Fergus.

Upgrade means you own a previous version.  during the checkout process, typically, you are provide a box to check "I own a previous version" and you get $20 off if the it's being sold for the full price, or down to $79 in the U.S.

Each new version is a brand new installation, and leaves the old version alone.... you will be prompted about importing you old Organizer catalogue.

Each version of PSE is independent. Adobe produces a new version anually (upgrade). They may give you a discount as a repeat customer, but frquently you can get a better price in one of the big box stores or at Amazon.

I don't have a Mac, but several posts on this board have referenced trouble subsequent to the Apple Sonama "upgrade."  That is an Apple induced headache!

Before you purchase PSE2024, avail yourself of the free 30-day trial, and if it works for you, you can purchase the license sub

I'm only on this thread because I moved it, but it occurs to me that 30 days will be close to Black Friday, which is a good time to check for sales before purchasing the license.

Any previous version of Elements qualifies for a discounted upgrade to 2024, right back to version 1.0. In other words, if you already have an Elements serial number from any earlier version, then you can upgrade.

As @hatstead says, shop around and you may find a full version from a big box store is cheaper than Adobe's discounted price for upgrading.

Housekeeping tip:

When reinstalling, keep in mind that you only need the one serial number to complete the reinstallation, that is the serial number which came with that version.

When reinstalling an upgrade version (no need to reinstall the original version first), you always need two serial numbers: the version you're reinstalling plus the version you upgraded from. Many people lose the original serial number and are then unable to complete the installation of their upgrade version.

In the past, I usually opted to pay the extra for the full version for simplicity down the track when reinstalling or reselling: one software version, one serial number. I would then save the installer, together with the serial number in a separate text file, in Dropbox.

Now that Adobe only give you a three year license with the 2025 Elements products, you lose the lifetime license of the old Elements software you upgrade from.  That means for the $20 savings (if upgrading single product Elements product) or $30 savings (if upgrading from dual Photoshop & Premiere Elements) you lose your old license which you could have given to someone else or used in another location.

No you do not "lose the license" of the old software you upgrade from.

If you got that information from Adobe please post a link to it.

Reading about it on some "mommy magic" type of website is not a source.
You heard from a guy who knows computers is not a source.
You always thought, is not a source.

Adobe is a source.

I have a three-year license for Photoshop Elements 2025 and now want to upgrade to 2026. Unfortunately, it's not working. The purchase seems to have not been completed, my credit card has been charged, and my account only shows the 2022 and 2025 versions.
What am I doing wrong, or what do I need to consider when upgrading? Or can I not upgrade to a license that's still active and would have to purchase the program again?

Purchases, depending upon your bank, can take up to two weeks to be fully processed.    Logout of your adobe account, and then log back in.  PSe 2026 is a product, not a plan- so be sure you check out your product listings.

If your Adobe purchase is taking a while to process, it is likely due to standard payment verification procedures. While payments often clear in a few minutes, Adobe states that delays of up to 48 hours are normal, especially if the transaction requires additional review.
Common reasons for purchase delays
  • Standard processing time: Adobe typically asks customers to wait at least 48 hours for a payment to be processed and for the subscription to activate.
  • Fraud protection: Orders may be held for an additional 24 hours if they are flagged for review by Adobe's fraud protection system. This is a normal security measure for online purchases.
  • Bank authorization holds: Your bank may place an authorization hold on the funds to verify the payment method. For new subscriptions or trial sign-ups, this hold can last for up to seven days.
  • Website or browser issues: Sometimes, a web browser conflict can interfere with the accounts page. Clearing your browser's cache or trying a different browser can resolve the issue.
  • Subscription renewal attempts: If an automatic payment fails, Adobe will make additional attempts to process the payment over a 30-day period.
What to do if your purchase is delayed
  1. Check your order status: Log in to your Adobe account at account.adobe.com/orders. In the "Orders and invoices" section, you can see if your order is still processing. It can take up to 24 hours for a payment to be reflected here.
  2. Wait 48 hours: Given the normal processing time, waiting up to two business days is the recommended first step before taking further action.
  3. Confirm payment information: Go to the "Plans and payment" section of your Adobe account to confirm that your credit card or other payment details are correct and up-to-date.
  4. Contact your bank: Check with your financial institution to ensure there are no holds on the transaction and that your card is set up for online purchases.
  5. Reach out to Adobe Support: If your subscription doesn't appear after 48 hours, or if your payment details are correct and your bank hasn't blocked the payment, you should contact Adobe Support for further assistance.
