abr. brushes not loading

It started off just fine, downloaded some cool brushes from deviantart, etc and they worked for a really long time but all of a sudden, the new brushes won't work anymore. They won't load at all, but instead the basic brushes repeat themselves. I've tried everything, dragged the brushes (from explorer) onto the PS icon. Didn't do a single thing. Tried to reset; still didn't work. Attempted to copy the custom brushes to the actual preset\brush folder, still didn't work (but before, I didn't even need to copy the brushes to the preset\brushes folder, it stuck to the download folder and worked perfectly).

If anyone could possibly give me a thorough answer, it'd really help! I'm a beginner at PS so I don't quite have a good handle on it.

In that case it sounds like there may be a problem with the Photoshop installation. You could first try resetting preferences. If that doesn't work, you could try the CC cleaner tool.

Try this. Put the brushes abr file anywhere on your computer that is convenient. Launch Photoshop. Select the Brush tool in the Tools panel.

In the Options bar, click the arrow next to the current brush.

Click the gear icon in the upper right.

Choose Load Brushes from the dropdown list.

Navigate to your brushes file and click Load.

I've tried, multiple times but it still doesn't show up, the only thing that happens is that it repeats the basic brushes.
