Hello, I'm a photoshop action newb and am looking for some help to take a bunch of PNG images, recolor them all with the same color and output them with the same name in the same folder, ideally replacing the original. I don't know where to begin with this and would appreciate any help. Thanks!

You can use script like Image Processor Pro which offers to open, save, to create additional folder and also offers save options. You will need one step action to play during batch process to fill image with some particular color. You can record fill with specific color or even better (do not forget that) you can record step to fill with whatever is Foreground color.
