Alt + right click performance changed with Photoshop v21.2

Following the update to v21.2, Alt + Right click (on Windows) has changed.  Moving the mouse left or right still changes the size of a brush (and the size of the circle which represents the size of the brush).  Moving the mouse up or down still changes the hardness - but there is no longer the red shading in the brush circle to represent the hardness (although the number in the associated box changes). Is it possible to restore the shading to show the hardness of the brush?

This issue could be related to your GPU, have you checked the performance settings to make sure OpenCL is enabled

Just hit Ctrl + K and it should bring up the preferences, then select the performance tab, click on advanced settings

The "Use OpenCL" option is greyed out on my machine so I cannot select it.  Would this have changed with the Photoshop update?

Yes more than likely it's related to the update, a lot of people are having issues with older GPU's and this update, do you know what GPU you have, if not just go to the Help > System Info and hit the copy button and paste the entire thing into this thread

You have an old AMD Radeon HD 6670 GPU and that's what's causing the issue, I have the same issue on my work PC with an AMD HD8490, no issue with my home PC with a RTX2060 super, Photoshop won't even detect the AMD HD8490 , but it works fine with version 21.1.3

You can either upgrade your GPU if that's possible or revert back to version 21.1.3 and hope that Adobe fix the issue with 21.2

You can revert back to 21.1.3 via the Creative Cloud app, just uninstall the current version then click on other versions from the same menu and select 21.1.3

OK - thanks for your help. I'll stick with 21.2 for a while and see whether the other changes are sufficiently attractive to compensate for this irritation (Alt right click is a function I use all the time).  Thank you for responding so quickly to my enquiry.

I have now tried v21.2 on my newer laptop (not the older tower PC which is my main machine).  Alt right click still works fine there, so you are obviously correct in attributing the problem to the old GPU in my tower.

One final question if I may.  Is it possible to alter the transparency of the shading in the brush to make the hardness easier to see? On my laptop the red is very pale (transparent) whereas on my tower (with the previous version of Photoshop), the red is bold (not transparent).

Oh, one other thing if you are using Photoshop on the Laptop make sure to disable legacy compositing if it's enabled otherwise you'll run into other issues/bugs

I had it on my 7 year old intel i7 3770 CPU Asus motherboard and it worked fine, even upgraded to a RTX2060 super and that works fine too on my old motherboard.

The good thing with the GTX1050ti, it doesn't require a power supply, it's powered from the motherboard

Yup, same here. Desktop have issues with new version, laptop (is much newer than desktop) no troubles at all.

Yeah, I've read about that. But, not everyone can afford a new GPU, at least not me. So, I think, Adobe must work in this issue.
