Question

Alt+RMB+Drag to Change Brush Size/Harness Doesn't Display Red Area CC 2018?

Hello All,

I recently updated to Photoshop CC 2018. To change my brush size and hardness on the fly, I use press ALT+RMB and drag left/right to change diameter and up/down to change the hardness of a brush. In previous versions of Photoshop, the brush diameter would appear when I pressed ALT+RMB and it would be filled with red. The diameter of the circle indicated the brush size relative to the canvas, but the red interior indicated the hardness of the brush. If the diameter was filled with a completely solid red, then it was at 100% hardness. If it had feathered edges, then it was less than 100%.

Currently, in CC 2018, the diameter appears, but the red interior does not. Therefore, there is no visual guide to how hard or soft the brush is. Yes, the dialog still appears telling you the diameter size and percent of hardness, but I really liked the visual representation that the red inner color showed. It allowed me to work more visually than by numbers.

So, my question is, should the red inner color be there when I use ALT+RMB to adjust brush size/hardness? Or was this removed from CC 2018? If it should be there, how did I lose it and how do I get it back? If it was removed, could I please request that Adobe add it back in.

Thank you.

Make sure you have or can have "Use Graphic Processor" checked in the preferences.

Yes, I definitely have Use Graphics Processor checked. I've been using Photoshop for decades. Thanks, though. I do appreciate your trying to help.

Just want to make sure, sometimes it gets automatically turned off depending upon your grapics card. Happens to me all the time with an Intel card.
