Question

Batch Actions Not Working

I created an Action a few years ago to save a psd file as a jpg at a resolution of 100 ppi. A couple of months ago, I could no longer batch process using this Action in Photoshop (I receive the message "Could not complete the Batch command because of a program error"), but up until the latest update I could still use it going through Bridge. Now with this latest update not even that will work. This time the message in Bridge is "The command Flatten is not currently available."  The Action itself will still work on individual images, just not on Batch editing. Any ideas?

Command not available is a common error massage the you will get when you pay an action on a document the has a structure that action was not crafted to hand.  Most actions have dependencies.  However, the only time I ever recall getting the massage  command "flatten Image" is not currently available is when CS6 was first released.  CS6 was very unstable when releases. Its first update fixed 506 core issues.   One is issue was  relegated to actions that worked on multiple documents.   CS6 did not interlock  actions when switching between document.  Action continued to run while Photoshop switched between document.  If during that time if a command that required an active document the command would fail with command not available because the was no active document  Photoshop was in the process of switching between documents. The only time I know flatten is not available is when there is no active document.  Even flattened documents where  menu Layer>Flatten Image is grayed out  you do not get that error if an action has a flatten image step  Even if the document is a bitmap document that does not support layer  a flatten image step does not fail. Only when the is no active document do you get that message. Are you using CS6 without its updates?

I hate action that flatten.  That Action will fail with that message if there is no open document. Just plat the action when not document is open. What do you  use  8" 100DPI  save as quality 12 Jpeg image files for.  If you delete the flatten step the action will still save 8" 100dpi jpeg quality 12 files

Hi Eunice,

As you're getting a program error while using the batch command, could you please let us know the exact version of Photoshop and operating system you're working on?

Does it happen with a specific action or all the actions?
Have you tried any troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue?

Regards,
Sahil

I'm on an iMac Pro using the Mojave OS (10.14.4). I've got Photoshop CC 2019 (20.0.4).
