Sorry Guys I'm super new to photoshop and have no idea what to search to find a tutorial to help - I have watched someone double click on text before and change it what looked like almost straight away but it certainly doesn't seem like it works that way
You cannot change text in JPEG file format. A JPEG can't 'hold' font informations.
Try to find the original *.psd file and change the font in this file. After changing save the *.psd and save as *.jpeg.
If you haven't a native *.psd - you only can erase the font (pixels) and write a new text.

If all you have is the JPEG file, select the area and use Content-aware file to replace the green background, then the Text tool to type in a new date as needed.
