Ever since I updated to PS 2020 my projects started getting this strange black transperent box on the top left corner that overlays everything. It sometimes happens when I use a Drop Shadow layer style. Often times, it happens when I drop shadow a group of different layers. I tend to get around it by simply not using the drop shadow. But I haven't had it before. And it even appears on older projects I have had where it didn't exist prior. Is there is a solution to make this go away?

Try resetting your Photoshop preferences, which you can do under the General tab in Photoshop preferences.
