Question

Can't automatically select an empty Shape

Hi, guys! Lately i switched to Photoshop CC 2019 and faced a huge problem. I mostly design interfaces inside Ps so there is plenty of shapes inside one document. These shapes overlaping each other and here is a big issue. In Ps 2015 there was really cool feature when you Choose Move tool with Autosellect you can easily select any Shape whether it has a Fill and Stroke, only fill or maybe even Stroke only.

Now in Ps CC 2019 if you have Stroke only shape, move tool autoselects the layer under the Shape, like it's going through the shape. And it is completely another experience unlike Ps CC 2015 where shapes even without fill where selected without any problems.

Is there any option or CheckBox for Move tool to make it work in the Right way?

P.S. I know that there is one trick. You can just make Shape with Fill and Stroke and than just put Fill Opacity to 0%. After that everything works right. But i still have huge amount of files made in previous Ps version, and i simply just can't recreate all of them.

It look like Adobe got around to fixing a bug that you have been taken advantage of. If you rasterize a shape  that has a Stroke and no Fill

you can only auto-select the stroke. There are no pixels in the layer other than shape layer stroke.  There are also not pixels in the shape layer other then the stroke.  It was a bug.  You found a  work around the you can use  recreate  your shape layers with strokes and fill and set the layer fill to 0. The stroke will be visible and the shape fill will not be visible but be auto selectable.  IMO it is nice to see Adobe fix a bug it would be even nicer seeing more of the outstanding bugs in Photoshop being fixed..

But if you click the Stroke itself it still works?

Yeah! But strokes in interface are mostly 1px thin. So if you want to select it you should aim directly at 1 px border or zoom in. Both of these actions serioucly slows down my work.

I would argue that this behaviour (not selecting non-content) can be called sensible.

But you can always post a Feature Request over on

and maybe others see the issue the same as you.
