Question

Can't install PS to SSD

I recently added a 512 GB solid state drive to my desktop computer. I wanted to use its speed for LIghtroom and Photoshop. However, when I go to preferences in the Creative Cloud app to change the installation drive, I get the message "cannot install to root path". What does this mean? And is there a workaround? Thanks.

You can't install to E: but you can make a folder Adobe Apps (for example) on E: and install to E:\Adobe Apps.

Ok, I'd not seen this but you get the error in Windows 10 if you try to install to the root folder. For example if you've added an E drive, you'll get it if you install to D:\. Try setting up a folder for your apps.

Thanks. I have, of course, my C drive which also has a recovery partition D. The internal SSD is the E drive. I tried to install the apps to the E drive. What do you mean "set up a folder for your apps"? On what drive. And why?

Try setting up a folder E:\Program Files

That way you would not be installing to the root folder (E:\)

Is the SSD a removable drive ?

No. Its internal, in the M.2 slot.

Where you install the app won't make a lot of difference to speed, except on starting up. But try moving Photoshop's scratch disk, that could make a huge difference to you.

For suggestions on the error message, please let us know what system you have (e.g. Mac OS Sierra, Windows 10).
