Cannot import abr files into PS 2020 for Mac

When I import brushes/abr files to PS on my Mac, I get a pop up that says:

 

Could not place "(brush pack).abr" because no parser or file format can open the file

 

What might my problem be, here?

Could be my laptop? It is a 2.4 GHz i5 MBPro from 2011. I've upgraded my memory and ram but not sure if that matters here

    How exactly are you importing the abr-file?

    I'm having the same problem. I tried importing via the preset manager window,  by dragging the file into my photoshop window, and by righ-clicking the .abr file and "opening with" photoshop. All methods failed.

    Did you try dragging the file onto the Photoshop-icon or via the Brushes Panel’s pop-up menu?
