Cannot Open PDF in Photoshop

I have a PDF file that I cannot open in Photoshop (it works in the PDF viewer).

The message is: "could not open x.pdf because it is not a Photoshop PDF file"

I did try to open file type PDF generic but that did not work either. My first attempt was merely double-clicking on the file name.

I am on Windows XP and using Photoshop 7.0

Thanks

When there are Accessibility Issues with PDF documents that open normally in PDF reader, and will not open in Photoshop, ADOBE has provided an accessibilty option in PDF PRO.

1, Choose Tools > Action Wizard.

The Action Wizard toolset is displayed in the secondary toolbar.

    2. From the Actions List, click Make Accessible.

The right-hand pane changes to display each task included in the Make Accessible action, as well as the instructions to execute the action.

    3. Select the files that you want to apply the Make Accessible action to. By default, the action runs on the document that's currently open. Select Add Files to select additional files or a folder to run the action on.

    4.  Click Start.

    5. Follow the prompts to complete the Make Accessible action.

Problem this There was an error processing the document. The file may be damaged or corrupted.

Step No. 1 - Pdf file open in chrome, firefox or any browser you have

    Step No. 2 - Control + P

Step No. 3 - Print Destination Save as PDF

Step No. 4 - Open the file you have saved by taking it to Photoshop.

    Yep. Rollin in dough here.

Glad that worked for you, Michael. Reason I asked is because some people put security settings on their PDF's to prevent copying of images or text. I'm one of them (most of the time).

I'm having the same problem opening a PDF in PS7.0.  I created the PDF in Acrobat 9 pro.

The image I selected, copied & pasted from pdf to ps worked, but was too pixlated.

You mentioned there might be a security setting in Acrobat 9 that might prevent me from opening it in PS7.0?

If so, is there any way to turn that off so I can open that pdf I created in ps?

I didn't have this problem when I had Acrobat 8 pro.

Thanks, I copied it and pasted it.

Duh. No idea why I didn't think of that. You're the best!

    What version is the PDF?

Or is it possible for you to select and copy the photo in the PDF from Reader and paste it into a PS file?

Yes it opens in Acrobat Reader, no problem. Just a single photograph in the pdf.

You say it will open in a PDF viewer... Acrobat Reader?

Is it possible the PDF version is more recent than your PS? Could be that's why it can't open or place it.

Unfortunately, that does not work either. It gives a Generic PDF Parser error - There was an error processing this document.

Create a new large document and try File--->Place... and choose your PDF.

You will be shown a dialogue box where you can choose which page to place. If your PDF document has more than 1 page, you'll have to place them one page at a time.
