Cannot Quick Export as PNG in Photoshop CC

i have tried everything such as restarting my PC turning it off and everything?

Hi, I have tried the steps below.

Earlier, I was able to successful export a layer to PNG but after a while, it no longer works.

My preferences detail is exactly the same as yours while the first line of the system info is: Adobe Photoshop Version: 2015.5.0 20160603.r.88 2016/06/03:23:00:00 CL 1078833 x64

On my end, here were the steps to replicate:
1. Ctrl+select layers (images, types, filters).
2. Ctrl+Shift+E
3. Right click on flattened selected layers.
4. Click 'Quick export as PNG'.
5. Save as dialog box opens.
6. Then noticed that the 'Save as type' is All Files (*.*). See below.

Hi Aileen,

it's always more difficult when something that was working suddenly stops. It could be you need to reset your preferences as this collection of files from time to time gets corrupted. Go into Preferences under the General Tab and press the Reset Preferences on Quit button and restart Photoshop. Then check in Preferences that the settings in the Export tab are still the same as above. Now see whether the export as Png feature is working. When something suddenly stops working its often a good idea to restart the computer. Most people , me included, tend to use stand-bye and sleep modes far to often and this can cause problems until a full system restart takes place.

Hi, I am also having the same problem. I can't even reopen it after closing PS. I had to wait about 15 minutes to reopen it. What happens to the new generation PS?

It's 2022 and I am having this issue with my current version of photoshop. How is this still a problem some 6 years later then when this thread was started?

Now, I've also got the problem that this certain (and quite sizeable) file wont quick-export nor export normally. If I try the former, I'll get the window where I can enter a location and a name, after which, when the loading bar is done, nothing has happened. The latter, exporting normally, results in an 'unknown error' after which it links me to the Adobe guide on how to export: thanks.

However, I've found a workaround: if you select the 'Save as' option and then select '.PNG' from the drop-down extension menu, it'll save the image just fine somehow.

I hope this might help someone as well.

One alternate solution... you might have a corrupted file. I ended up duplicating each Photoshop layer into a new file and testing the "Export As..." functionality to see whether or not it was still working. Once I hit the layer that wasn't working, I knew where the problem was. I copied the art from that layer into a new layer, and duplicated that layer to the new file. (If you have a crazy number of layers, try grouping the layers into folders and duplicating the folders, or bringing over layers a batch at a time.)

It's annoying, I don't really know what's going wrong, but I got my Export functionality back in the new file, and left the old file to its corrupted ways.

I too faced the same issue, where the Export > 'Quick Export to PNG' does nothing.

Check these settings:

File > Export > Export Preferences

Ideally it was set as:

'Ask where to export each time' - even though this option was selected nothing happened.

Do this:

Use the second option.

'Export files to an assets folder next to the current document'

In Windows Explorer, check the folder where the original PSD file is placed. Next to that you will find a folder called 'Name of PSD-assets'

Once you find the PNG here.

Switch back to

'Ask where to export each time'

See if these steps works for you.

This pretty much I how I got it to work again after finding that the quick save was not saving a file anywhere that I could find, but it also did not show any errors. This feature was broken on a fresh install of CC2018. I changed it to export to jpeg. Relaunched Photoshop and then it was working again. Then I changed it back to PNG with the option to pick the save location and it continued to work. Since it is a fresh install, it seems that the adobe installer did not see that preference to a proper value by default.

My problem is PS saves everything as a JPG, no matter what is selected. PS is current. It seems every third update requires a complete uninstall and reinstall and wiping out all prefs.

Very annoying.

we have the same problem too, when you click the "quick export" in photoshop cc 2018 i automaticaly opens "save as" menü

Go into Export->Export Preferences and then make sure you choose the file type you want. Then below that area go to the "Quick Export Location" and choose "Ask where to export each time".

This should help with the issue.

I'll throw my name into the hat as well.

Photoshop CC 2017 is up to date, set to ask with each export and I have tried with and without sRGB conversion. Changing file type yields the same result.

Quick Export as (filetype) appears active, when I click on it the menu disappears as normal, but when the save as prompt should appear, nothing happens.
