Clipping mask possible inverse

okay so what im trying to do is basically 'cookie cutter' something? I have an image and a pattern underneth, i want to use the image above to cut threw the pattern below so it creates a hole the same shape as the image above. Im doing this so i can make layers for screen printing.  hopefully someone understands what im trying to explain

You could select the image, and then, in the pattern layer, Layer > Layer Mask > Hide Selection.

You can also use knockout in blending in the layer styles. Group the layers that you want to use as the knockout or hole, and any layers that you want the hole cut through. Open the layer styles by double clicking on the layer in the layers panel to open the layer styles. Set the knockout ot shallow, and the fill opacity to 0.
