Colored gif into clean lineart?

I was wondering if anyone knew how to get from this:

To this:

This was my attempt using the Find Edges effects, Levels, and some blurring, but I'm not sure how to get it looking as clean with the lines as the one above (especially at the last part with the explosion).

Any suggestions? Thank you ahead of time
