constrain angle of straight line with brush tool

In PS CC 2014 I could constrain the angle of a straight line drawn with the brush tool to 0, 45 and 90 degrees by holding the shift key.

In PS 2017 this no longer works standard, how can I get this functionality back?

    You can  constrain the brush to 0 or 90 degrees by clicking then holding down shift and dragging but not 45 degrees

    You can still make a dot with the brush, press down Shift, make an other dot where ever you want and PS will connect them with a straight line. You have to eyeball the angle though.

    Here is a long way to a 45% angle or any angle

    1) Open a new file (must be empty) with a resolution equal to your target image.

    2) Click the Rectangular Marquee tool

    3) Hold shift and drag the Marquee tool to the right. Length and thickness (line or bar) are set by the brush motion. The selection will be horizontal.

    4) Fill with black (or whatever color)

    5) Click Image -> Rotate -> Custom

    6) Enter your Angle into the box

    7) Click Right or Left (the entire image rotates Left / Counterclockwise or Right / Clockwise

    8) Copy the bar / line (use the marquee tool to select a box around the line / bar

    9) Paste into your target image

    No doubt this is a kludge to get the angle you want.

    Another approach is to get an image of a circle marked in degrees. Put this on its own layer and it can now be used as a drawing guide. Just be careful if it is moved not to rotate it or stretch it.

    Are you sure you not thinking about the Line tool being constrained to 0 45 90.  The brush tool can draw a straight line at any angle  which I fine much better then 0 45 90.    You use two different types of clicks.  A single left click at the begining of the line then a shift left click on the other end of the line.  You can continue drawing the line using additional Shift left click so with a  Left Click followed by the 3 Shift left clicks you could draw a triangle.

    You constrain the line tool using the shift key.
