Content Aware in Photoshop CS5 won't work??

I read a fine tutorial:

www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-editing/content-aware-fill-cs5/

When I progressed to EDIT>FILL in my CS5 Extended program, I saw content-aware as one of 9 choices, but content-aware was grayed out and useless.   Content-aware won't work.  WHY ??

    Hi Michael,

That does not sound right, let's make it right.

Try selecting only the areas that you want Content Aware Fill to look at for making the fill, and copying them to a new layer. Then using Content Aware Fill on that layer.

Could you check this thread and let us know if it helps? Can't get Content Aware Fill in CS5 to work as advertised in many tutorials...

I was going to try transferring a selection to a new layer before applying Content Aware.  Then I decided to try the technique that was supposed to work:

1-  In Bridge, select photo, which then appears in Camera Raw.

    2-  Click  Open Image

3-  Make selection with lasso tool

    4-  Edit>Fill>Content Aware>OK

It WORKED!!!!     I have no idea why the past failures.   Another mystery of life.   Many thanks for your response to an amatuer.
