Mac Version 20.0.4
Two 8-bit RGB docs open. I select one or multiple layers in one and [SHIFT] + [CMD] + Drag them to the other document.
Layers show up in the Layers palette with their thumbnails, but are not visible in the composition. Blend modes and opacity sliders are greyed out in the palette.
One workaround was to create a new document, copy the layers there and then into the target document.
Also found the Legacy Compositing also seemed to fix the problem.
This issue slowed me down today while on a deadline, now I cannot reproduce it even after switching off Legacy Compositing and opening the original documents.

Hi Scott,
It's working now then?
If it happens again, please show your layers panel so we can help troubleshoot. Also give your OS X.

Hi, yes I forgot to mention the OS. It's High Sierra 10.13.6
I got it to happen again today, but at the same time I lost all text input abilities in Photoshop. I was creating a crop preset and I couldn't type anything in the box to name it. The crop preset did save with the default text (i.e. "640x400")
With so much weirdness happening at once, It popped into my head to try closing Safari. That returned my text editing abilities.
My resolution to the invisible copied layers is a little different. Today I was building animated GIFs. and the layers I was copying were at a different point in time from the playhead, thus the layers palette did the identical thing as yesterday. When the playhead is not over a selected layer, the transfer modes and transparency sliders are greyed out.
So, perhaps my problem yesterday was related to the timeline, even though the documents I was working on yesterday should not have involved the timeline, but I couldn't tell because that palette was closed.
I'll keep an eye on it. Thank you.

Photoshop new compositing seems to have problems with some display adapters. I do not know if the Problems are Adobe or the Display manufactures device drivers problems. My Nvidia Quadro 4000 work well with Adobe new compositing. However My Quadro Display Adaper is 6 years old and my Dell Workstation started to fail it would go black and stop Working. I needed to do a Power OFF reset the restart mat machine. Windows Reliability History viewer showed Hardware error Code 141. The web show that normally becaus of a video device driver problem but my Quadro Device diver was over a year old and was working fine for more than a year. So I purchased a refurbished Quadro K2000 for $150 which is faster then my old Quadro 4000 has twice the VRAM, can drive three displays and supports 4K 3840x2160. With the K2200 I had Problems with Photoshop cc 2019 till I checked use Legacy compositing.

I just noted that I did already say this. Sorry for the duplicate.
I think I figured this problem out. Somehow some of the files I was editing had had the timeline turned on. When new layers were dragged in, they were copied over at a point in time where they didn't intersect with the play-head. Strange how it seemed intermittent.
