Copy merged function not working

Community Beginner ,
Nov 11, 2016 Nov 11, 2016

Since 2017 update copy merged function is no longer working.  Is anybody else having this problem?  It is a major issue as I can no longer make a stamp in my workflow.

Possibly related.  I can't copy text.  It's not sticking to the clipboard.

Hi chrisl1966

At what point is it not working.

Is it grayed out/ or are you not able to paste after using it / or are you getting any error messages

Hi, it is not greyed out but it does not create the pasted layer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Ps to see if that made any difference and it didnt

Can we see where exactly we differ (if there is a bug it may help locate it)

Start with two simple layers - background white - Layer 1 a black pixel square, the rest transparent.

Ctrl + A (Select All)

Shift + Ctrl + C (copy Merged)

Shift + Ctrl + N (new layer)       - Enter for "OK"

Ctrl + V (Paste into new layer)

I get the merge layer pasted into the new layer

Hi

I am running Mac so it may be related to a Mac bug.  You add in extra commands that weren't necessary before.  You should be able to do Cmd + A then go to Copy Special/Copy Merged.  This should produce a merged stamp of all of the layers as it used to previously work.

Maybe different on MAC

I've just checked CS6 and CC2015.5 (on windows) both worked the same as above with separate copy and paste steps required

Copy Merged does just that - makes a merged copy in the clipboard. Stamping  merged is done thusly (from Adobe Help):

Stamp multiple layers or linked layers

When you stamp multiple selected layers or linked layers, Photoshop creates a new layer containing the merged content.

  • Select multiple layers.
  • Press Ctrl+Alt+E (Windows) or Command+Option+E (Mac OS).

To stamp all visible layers, do the following:

  • Turn visibility on for the layers you want to merge.
  • Press Shift+Ctrl+Alt+E (Windows) or Shift+Command+Option+E (Mac OS).
