Question

Copying and saving a path

Hi, please please help!

I used CS6 previously, just started using the new version.

I tried to copy and paste a clipping path to a new image, the path changes to a vector mask and if I save it as a .jpeg the path disappears, it never happened before in CS6, how do I fix this?

Thank you so much!

Adobe changed the default for pasting paths.

It used to be as in cs6 paths were generally pasted to the paths panel unless one specifically had a vector mask or shape layer targeted.

Now starting in photoshop cc 2013, the first cc version i believe was the version that incorporated the change.

Anyhow, here is what adobe says about pasting paths

(if i remember there was nary a mention of this in what"s new or changed in photoshop

and it wasn't till some user noticed and complained about it that regular users became fully aware of the change)

Deselect any selected layer in the Layers panel. Vector mask is default behavior when layer beside shape layer in the Layers panel is selected.

You can also try creating a new path in the paths panel first. It doesn’t actually have to contain a path. Then select what you just created and paste into it.

    Hi Chris,

Try dragging the path from one image to the other. Drag the path from the Paths panel to the new image. Press Shift before your release to center the path.

    If necessary, deselect layers first.

The path should save with a jpeg. You are losing it?
