Question

Could not use brush tool because of disk error

Hello. I'm currently using Photoshop CC 2018 Version 19.1.5 for texturing 3D models. Unfortunately I'm experiencing a bug. My workflow is opening an .obj file, opening it's texture and organizing my windows so I can paint the texture while seeing the model.
However, if I paint outside the UV map, the following error message pops up and I lose what I painted: "Could not use brush tool because of disk error". This error happens every time I let go of the left mouse button outside the model's UV. I tried some troubleshooting, but no success so far.

- I reseted the preferences.
- I checked my disks using CC Cleaner and the chkdsk command (no errors found).
- I updated photoshop.
- I tried changing the work disks.
- I tried reinstalling the program, but the error persists.

What should I do to fix this? Thank you for your attention!

Hi Antoniof,

We're sorry to hear about the disk error, as you've already tried some troubleshooting steps, could you please let us know when was the last time Photoshop worked as expected?

Also, which graphics processor is installed in the computer?

Could you try increasing the RAM usage of Photoshop available in Preferences > Performance then relaunch Photoshop and let us know if it helps with the issue?

Regards,
Sahil

I believe the first time I had this problem, I was using Photoshop CC 2017. I did alter some photoshop configurations before this bug started: I changed my 3D save file formats from .psb to .psd. So I opened some old .psb files but the problem still persists. Some good news, though: when messing with the old files I discovered I get the error message whenever I paint outside the canvas, not the UV.

Increasing the RAM and the History & Cache values didn't help too, unfortunately. I'm using a NVidia Geforce GTX 750 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 graphics processor.
