CS3 fails to launch

New Here ,
Oct 31, 2019 Oct 31, 2019

My Photoshop CS3 v.10 with new serial number fails to launch after following the steps given to me by Adobe Support.  I have a new Dell 8930 running Windows 10.  I have followed all the steps multiple times with the same result.  The steps I have followed are:  1) Turn off firewall and disable antivirus. 2) Uninstall CS3.  3) Delete cache.db 4) Run CC cleaner tool for Windows. 5) Generate new serial number by entering old serial number.  6) Download CS3 and install it.  I rebooted at appropriate times during the process.  When I try to open the program it says it is not responding.  I have not found any posts that discuss this problem and would love some help.  Any ideas?

I am not a photographer and do not want all the the programs included in Adobe's Plans.  CS3 in combination with Lightroom was working just fine for me on my old computer.

CS3 is really old and may never work with Win10

Two ideas that MAY work to install and/or run old programs in Windows 10
-RIGHT click the program icon or EXE and select a compatibility mode in the pop up option window
-and/or select Run as Administrator to assign FULL Windows permissions
-also https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/create-local-administrator-account-windows.html

John T Smith, thank you very much for your prompt reply and good suggestions.  Unfortunately, they did not work.  However, I am not going to give up because my CS3 worked for years on my previous computer that ran Win10.  Back to Adobe Support, I guess.

Allync53762429, I am sorry, but our chat support team no longer provides launch troubleshooting support for Creative Suite 3.

After reviewing your original post, I don't think you are facing a licensing or activation error.  Instead, it appears the applications themselves are failing to open under Windows 10.

I would recommend you choose which application you would like to begin troubleshooting the launch failure with.  You can update this public forum discussion, and it can then be moved to a discussion board that may be able to help you with problems opening Creative Suite 3 applications.

"my CS3 worked for years on my previous computer that ran Win10."

But that was without the current updates to Windows 10.

A couple of things to try.

  • Right click on Photoshop desktop icon and select run as administrator.
  • Failing that, try booting up your computer in Safe Mode and see if that allows Photoshop to open.

Thanks for your comments, Jeff_A_Wright.  I will be troubleshooting PhotoshopCS3. It's the only Creative Suite product I use. Bought a stand-alone Photoshop for $600 in 2017 and I have loved it and used it constantly all these years. I agree with you that I am not having a licensing error and that there is a conflict with Win10 instead.  Tomorrow I will try @Nancy_Oshea suggestion to boot computer in Safe mode and see if PS will load that way.

Thank you very much everyone!

I apologize if I am posting out of order causing date/time confusion.  The note says to use Blue Reply button at top of page.  Hope this is correct spot.

Thanks for the additional information, Allync53762429.  I will move this public forum discussion to the Photoshop board.  The community there may have additional suggestions on how you can successfully open Photoshop CS3 on a modern operating system.
