I have always saved my work (both in CS4 and CS6) as .psd and .pdf. I am working on a new .psd just as I always have but when I try to save it there is no option to save as a .pdf. I created it in CS4 and the option is not there and I have also imported the .psd into CS6 and the option is not their either. Any ideas?

Ah, the screen grab tells the tale.  Thank you for taking the time to post that.

You're using 32 bits/channel mode for the document.  Change it to 16 bits/channel if you need to be able to save a PDF.

What do you see in the list of Formats?  Is there any way you could capture what you're seeing on the screen and post it here?

Only thing I can think of is that the PDF format maybe scrolled out of view in that list - it is kind of long.

The screen capture won't let me snag the dropdown selection (attached) but the only options available to me are...

Photoshop (*.PSD;*.PDD)

Large Document Format (*.PSB)

OpenEXR (*.EXR)

Photoshop Raw (*.RAW)

Portable Bit Map (*.PBM;*.PGM;*.PPM;*.PNM;*.PFM;*.PAM)

Radiance (*.HDR;*.RGBE;*.XYZE)

TIFF (*.TIF;*.TIFF)

Hi Noel and all. I realize this is an old thread but I am having an issue with saving as PDF.

I am saving a very large file (800+MB) that I have in psb format for a printer (they only admit PDF) and no matter what I try I cannot even get the PDF or PS PDF save as option.

I am providing a screen capture of the only options I am offered for saving the file.
PS_SAVE_OPTIONS.png

I have it in 16BIT mode already, it was in 8 from the printers template but I converted it to 16 to try and no luck, I still am not offered the PDF option to save.

And when I try to work around the save as and run the Save as PDF action in my actions pane, the same thing happens, NO PDF save option.

I have a deadline to get this thing to the printer and am desperate.
I have tried everything.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Thanks in advance!

Jer...

Hmmmm.. when I posted the above I went back and tried one last thing.

My original template is a whopping 508x518cm

TEMPLATE.png

So, it occurred to me maybe too big to save as PDF?

So, i cropped it to 164x300cm, basically getting rid of the white margin.
TEMPLATE 2.png

PS LET ME SAVE AS PDF! Woooohooo!

Learned something new today, I did not know you could not save as PDF if the image is too large.

Is this new?

Now to hope the printer will accept it as it...

Thanks!

AAARGGGHHHH!!!

Printer says I cannot change the dimensions of the template which means the crop was a no no.

Back to square 1! Same problem as 2 posts up.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Ok, sorry for all the posts but I solved this.

I tried lowering my resolution. The printer's advice says ideal res is between 100-150dpi but their template is at 150.

So, i dropped it to 140, maintaining resample and BINGO...

SOLVED.png

... the reduced file size allows me to save as PDF...

Found the answer here by the way --> adobe photoshop - Large format pdf - can't save? - Graphic Design Stack Exchange

Hope my discovery just shows everyone it's not always just a problem of the bits.

Thanks,

It's just better to post your problem as a new topic than it is to append to an old thread that has already been marked as solved (Green checkmark) and in this case, 2 years old. It simply won't get much attention.

Answered questions should only be for reference.

PS 2021 on my laptop would not offer .pdf as a 'save as' option.

Workaround: Choose 'Save as Copy' alt+ctrl+s command to access the .pdf output format.

Thanks for the workaround. Wondering if this could be an update to Photoshop. The option was there two days ago and in "Save As", but now it is not...working with the same exact file, no changes, from two days ago. But the "Save as Copy" worked fine.

>>>Wondering if this could be an update to Photoshop.

Yes. It's a change in the latest 22.4 update due to Apple changing the behavior of its operating system. It's been extensively discussed in this forum recently and is unrelated to the old discussion here.

This post from 29 August 2012 is for CS6 and does not apply to the new posts referring to Save a Copy in Photoshop 22.4.1. I am locking this thread. Please find another post about 22.4.1 to add to (or start a new post) so we can better assist.
